Southern Highway & Glaciers

Crossing the Andes through the Chilean and Argentinean Glaciers

The Carretera Austral and the Perito Moreno Glacier are two of Patagonia’s most impressive destinations, offering travellers a unique experience among mountains, forests, lakes and glaciers.

  • The Carretera Austral, a route that goes through more than 1,200 kilometres of wilderness, is an epic journey in itself. Starting from the coastal town of Puerto Montt in southern Chile, the road links some of the most remote and unspoilt landscapes in the world.

  • Perito Moreno Glacier welcomes you with its icy splendour. Covering an area of 250 km², this white giant is an ever-changing show of nature. Unlike most of the world’s glaciers, Perito Moreno is always in motion, creating an impressive phenomenon: from time to time, huge blocks of ice break off with a tremendous roar and fall into the waters of Lago Argentino.
